Arriving in Marrakech, guests will spend one night in this vibrant city before travelling to N'kob, a village which is full of red adobe Kasbahs and surrounded by verdant palms in the valley. N'kob is ‘off the beaten track' and acts as a base for treks through the desolate and challenging Sarhro Mountains. You will also have the opportunity to witness the remarkable works of N'kob's female weavers.
The tour then travels towards Merzouga, which lies 50 km Southeast of Erfoud on the edge of Erg Chebbi in the Sahara Desert, and offers the first views of the huge and undulating golden sand dunes.
There are three Berber villages located around the dunes that keep the traditional Saharan Berber way of life alive in Southern Morocco. These Blue Men of the Sahara Desert and Atlas Mountains built villages, better known as the famous Kasbahs that resemble fortresses.
The Erg Chebbi is the only erg in Saharan Morocco and is 22 km long and 5 km wide extending east into the Algerian Sahara Desert. Erg Chebbi is the highlight of this tour as these are Morocco's most stunning dunes. You will travel into this unbelievable location by camel and give participants the once in a lifetime opportunity to watch the sunrise or sunset in Erg Chebbi. Guests have the option of making a bivouac under the stars and will observe how bright the Milky Way, constellations and galaxies are in the middle of the Sahara.
The erg is home to diverse bird species and for bird lovers, taking this tour in spring is a must. Northwest of Merzouga, a seasonal lake forms in Erg Chebbi where pink flamingos and other migratory water birds can be spotted. We will then return to Marrakesh where you will have a day of leisure to enjoy your Morocco holiday.
* Important - The Moroccan sun is very strong and they recommend wearing hats or head scarves, sun glasses, sun cream and bringing along plenty of water. At night, the Sahara can get equally cold, so please pack accordingly.
