1001 Kasbahs

Taking a tour in Southern Morocco is an incredible chance to travel through breathtaking and diverse scenery through the Valley of the Kasbahs. This tour first travels through the colourful Drâa Valley, in which Morocco's longest river, the Drâa flows, and is famed for its numerous and beautiful Kasbahs, traditional Berber villages and flourishing palmeraies. Life moves at a slower pace in Morocco's Drâa River Valley and we'll experience it as we journey through scorching desert, fertile oases and groves of palm and dates.

In the oasis town Zagora you will see Jebel Zagora, the nearby mountain on which sits the Almoravid Fortress and has impressive views of Drâa Valley Kasbahs and Ksours and Tinfou Dunes. We recommend heading up the mountain early, before it gets too hot while you can catch the sun's gorgeous rays falling on the desert. The legendary "Timbuktu 52 Days" sign is also in Zagora.

From Zagora we will continue further South towards the Algerian border to M'Hamid, which is truly the final city before a sea of desert. M'Hamid is the ideal base for taking a trip to the Sahara and we will sleep in the desert under the stars. The road to and from M'Hamid is magnificent and one of the main reasons for travelling so far south.

We'll then carry on through N'Kob village of the Kasbahs boasting 52 Kasbahs and surrounded by lush palms in the valley and functions as a terrific base for hikes through the arid and difficult, yet gorgeous, Sarhro Mountains. We'll proceed to Ouarzazate by way of Agdz. The drive from Agdz to Ouarzazate abounds with multicoloured palmeraies, Kasbahs and mud brick Berber villages.

Ouarzazate sits at the convergence of the Atlas, Drâa and Dadès Valleys and is known for its picturesque sunsets. In the centre of town, we'll visit the enormous Taourirt Kasbah which offers glimpses of life inside a Kasbah and is wonderful for strolls down narrow alleys. The town is also notable for Atlas Film Corporation Studios, which has been the filming location for movies such as Gladiator and Kundun. We will then return to Marrakesh where you will have a day of leisure to enjoy your Morocco holiday.
